What is the ruling on copying a computer program called "Al-Quran" owned by Sakhr Company, for the purpose of gifting it to another person so that he may learn the Quran? And can religious knowledge and the Holy Quran be subject to copyright?

These companies provide a great service to Muslims through their educational programs that facilitate seeking knowledge and memorizing the Qur’an. These programs cannot be realized without significant effort and expense. Islamic law protects the rights of these companies and does not allow anyone to infringe upon them. This includes everything in which a person has exerted effort. If people were allowed to copy copyrighted works and programs and attribute them to themselves, that would be an injustice and an aggression, and it would lead to the bankruptcy of companies and deprive Muslims of good. The Islamic Fiqh Academy has issued a resolution stating that copyrights and invention rights are protected by Islamic law and may not be violated. Some scholars have permitted copying computer programs for the purpose of gifting, not for commercial trade, but it is more cautious to refrain from doing so.
