Why is it that impurity is removed by the sun but not by dust, knowing that it is removed by water and other liquids?

Impurity is removed and purification is achieved by the disappearance of its trace through the sun, and likewise by earth if the impurity is wiped with it and no trace of it remains. This is a statement held by some scholars.
