It is advised not to swear excessively, as it indicates a lack of reverence for Allah and boldness against Him. Allah has condemned excessive swearing, saying: "And do not obey every frequent swearer, a base one." If an oath was sworn in anger and not fulfilled, or in fear, expiation is required, provided the anger did not reach the point of losing awareness. For oaths that were broken and cannot be recalled, expiations must be offered for the number that is most likely. Fasting is not sufficient for expiation of an oath unless one is unable to feed or clothe.
