What is the interpretation of the Imam's saying, "Whoever does not marry and is thirty years old or more is a monster"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Marriage is among the practices of the Messengers. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) encouraged young people to marry. A group of scholars held the view that marriage is obligatory for anyone who is able, without qualification, while others held that it is obligatory for those who fear falling into sin.

Specifying marriage at the age of thirty or above has no evidence. Blaming someone who has not married after thirty is wrong, as many do not marry after this age due to their inability to afford it or their preoccupation with what they deem better. Many virtuous scholars passed away without marrying. Attempting to remove the preacher from his position is wrong; the proper approach is to advise him and clarify his error.
