What is the ruling on giving lectures during occasions such as the month of Muharram?

There is no harm in giving lectures on occasions to remind people of their virtues and to encourage their utilization, but consistently doing so is not from the guidance of the Salaf. It is not permissible to celebrate Laylat al-Qadr or other occasions such as the night of mid-Sha'ban, Al-Mi'raj, and the Prophet's Birthday, as these are newly invented innovations (bid'ah). It is not permissible to assist in these celebrations with money, gifts, or by distributing tea, nor by delivering speeches and lectures during them, because that is an endorsement and encouragement of them. Rather, it is obligatory to denounce them and not to attend them. What is prescribed is to perform night prayers during the nights of Ramadan and to revive the nights of its last ten days with prayer.
