Is it permissible to prostrate to Allah in gratitude while wearing shoes?

Prayer with footwear—including the prostration of gratitude (sajdat al-shukr)—is permissible, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray both barefoot and with sandals. This is provided that no harm results from praying with them, as is the case in carpeted mosques. If there is any dirt or harm (impurity) on the footwear, one should wipe it on the ground and then pray with them. As for mud and dust, they do not cause harm. The conditions for the prostration of gratitude are the same as those for prayer, including purity, facing the qiblah, and covering the awrah. Prostration is not permissible except when one is in a state of purity.
