The question

What is the ruling of Islamic law concerning the treatment of a mother who curses her children and their wives with destruction and discontent, because they provide food and drink for their wives, knowing that the father is well-off, and that the questioner's wife performs all household chores but cannot tolerate living in this house? And what is the ruling of Islamic law concerning the request for a separate home for the wife in this situation?

The answer

It is obligatory to give everyone their due rights. Thus, your mother, father, and wife all have rights. If someone becomes displeased because you are giving others their rights, their displeasure is not to be heeded. You may move your wife to her own separate dwelling to avoid problems. Your mother’s displeasure and her prayers against you will not harm you, as she is in the wrong. The wife has the right to request a separate dwelling. Your brothers must fear Allah concerning their wives and spare them distress and hardship. All of you, after moving, must not cease to honor your parents and serve them.
