What are the legal consequences for me if I made a covenant with Allah to abandon a forbidden act, but then committed it repeatedly? What is the obligatory expiation (kaffarah), and how many times must I expiate for it, given that I have forgotten the number of times? What is the monetary value of feeding one needy person? Is it permissible to pay the expiation as charity? And will my repentance be accepted before completing the expiation, with my intention to feed ten needy people?

Fulfilling one's covenant with Allah is obligatory, and breaking it is forbidden, necessitating repentance. If the covenant in question is an oath, meaning you swore not to do something forbidden and then did it, you must repent and offer expiation for the oath as outlined in verse 89 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, which is: feeding ten poor persons, or clothing them, or emancipating a slave. And whoever cannot find [the means] - then a fast of three days. If the breach of the oath is repeated, the expiations multiply. If the number [of breaches] is forgotten, estimate a number that will absolve you. The amount for feeding is half a sa' for each poor person (approximately 1.25 kg of good quality wheat) or its monetary value according to the current price in your country.
