Is it permissible to commit suicide with the intention of repentance and ceasing major sins, due to the inability to repent naturally, based on an understanding of Allah's saying: "So kill yourselves" [Quran 2:54]?

The verse, "So kill yourselves," indicates that the innocent among the Children of Israel should kill the guilty ones who worshipped the calf, or that they should surrender themselves to be killed, and not that each person should commit suicide. The law of Islam came with a different ruling: repentance is achieved through turning and returning to Allah, not by killing oneself, for suicide is a major sin.
