What is the ruling on money acquired from praising the Prophet (peace be upon him) at weddings and events?

The Salaf did not speak about taking the praise of the Prophet as a profession. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen holds that taking the praise of the Prophet as a profession to earn money is unlawful, because praise is an act of worship, and an act of worship should not be taken as a means for worldly gain. As for praising the Prophet, it is divided into two categories: permissible, which is praising him with what he deserves without exaggeration; and unlawful, which is praising him with exaggeration, such as attributing knowledge of the unseen to him. This may even reach the level of major shirk (definition).
