What is the ruling on making praise of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a trade?
Praising the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is of two types:
1. Praise that does not reach the level of exaggeration (ghuluw), which is permissible.
2. Praise that leads the praiser to exaggeration, such as describing the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as knowing the unseen or owning this world and the hereafter. This is forbidden and may reach the level of major shirk (associating partners with Allah), due to the Prophet’s prohibition of excessive praise.
Also, taking permissible praise as a profession for worldly gain is forbidden, because it is an act of worship and should not be a means for worldly earnings.
