Is it true that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was praised and gave gifts for praise, despite the hadith: "When you see those who praise excessively, throw dust in their faces"?

What is mentioned in the book (Al-Mustatraf) regarding Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz's giving to poets is not based on a sound chain of transmission, because Ibn al-Kalbi is a narrator whose narrations are abandoned. As for the Prophet's (peace be upon him) giving to poets in the manner of caliphs and kings, nothing is known about it.

If there must be evidence for the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) stance on giving to poets, then in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to a poet who was reciting: "Take the devil - or hold back the devil - For a man's belly to be filled with pus is better for him than to be filled with poetry." This indicates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) only did this with those who took poetry as a means of earning a living, thus exaggerating in praise and dispraise.
