What is meant by "raqam" in the hadith: "except for a 'raqam' in a garment"?

Scholars have interpreted the term "figure" in two ways: The first is the disrespected image that is trodden upon, like cushions. This is excused, provided that photography itself is not permissible. The second refers to patterns on clothes that are not images of living beings. These are not forbidden, for what is forbidden are images of animate beings, as it has been established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry when he saw a garment containing an image and tore it, and he informed that the makers of images would be punished on the Day of Resurrection. Jibreel (peace be upon him) commanded the Prophet to sever the head of a statue and to use a curtain containing an image as two cushions to be trodden upon.
