What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding obligating the current tenant to pay for repairs that were carried out during the time of a previous tenant, after five years have passed since he purchased the apartment and the building in its current condition?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The tenant is not liable for damage to the property unless it results from their negligence or transgression. Demanding the current tenant to repair damage caused by a previous tenant is unjust, for Allah Almighty says: (And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another) and (Every soul, for what it has earned, is pledged).
