Who was the first upon whom the Holy Qur'an was revealed?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him) alone.

Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the beginning of the revelation was with truthful visions in sleep. Then, he would go to Hira for devotion, until the truth came to him in the cave of Hira, where the angel came to him and said: "Read!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "I am not a reader." So the angel embraced him tightly three times, then said: {Recite in the name of your Lord who created} until {Taught man that which he knew not}.
