Is it considered valid to perform the obligatory prayer in congregation at a workplace not designated for prayer, when there is a prepared prayer room available in the same building?

Scholars differed concerning the obligation of congregational prayer in the mosque. Some obliged men to attend congregational prayer in the mosque unless there was an excuse, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever hears the call and does not come to it, there is no prayer for him except for one with an excuse." While the majority of scholars believe that it is not obligatory in the mosque, even though performing it there is better due to the rewards, the larger congregation, and the virtue of the place. We advise performing the prayer in the designated prayer area, unless there is a need that compels you to pray in another place.
