Is it permissible for a single young man to host his foreign female friend in his apartment for a week?

The trial of women is one of the greatest causes of people's misguidance and their falling into sins. It is a means by which Satan tempts the children of Adam. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against it. Whoever desires protection must remember death and accountability, feel the greatness of Allah, beware of solitude, hasten to marry if able, and if not, then resort to fasting and frequently supplicating to Allah.
