What is the ruling on a menstruating woman entering upon a woman who is breastfeeding, and on shaving hair or a beard and entering upon a woman in postpartum confinement and a woman who is breastfeeding, and on an impure person entering upon a woman in postpartum confinement and a woman who is breastfeeding?
It is permissible for a menstruating woman, a woman in a state of major ritual impurity (junub), or a woman who has shaved her hair, to enter upon a nursing mother, and it is not permissible to regard this as an ill omen, for a Muslim does not become impure. It is permissible for a woman to breastfeed her child in front of other women and her mahārim (unmarriageable kin) while covering her awrah (intimate parts), and it is better to cover the breast as an extra measure of modesty. It is permissible for a man in a state of (ritual consecration for Hajj/) to enter upon his mahārim, even if he is in a state of major ritual impurity, as long as he is covering his awrah. Shaving a man's beard is forbidden, while shaving a woman's beard, if she grows one, is permissible.
