What is the ruling on going against the result of Istikhara, what are its signs, how does one know its result, and what is the meaning of feeling constricted and uneasy after Istikhara while the supplicant proceeds with the matter for which they sought guidance?

After performing Istikhara, the supplicant should do what his heart feels at ease with. If he acts contrary to what his heart feels at ease with, there is no sin upon him, for whatever he does after a legitimate Istikhara is good. It is not a condition for a sign to appear to the supplicant; rather, he entrusts his affair to Allah and relies on Him, and seeks help by consulting sincere advisors and experts. It is recommended to repeat Istikhara and then act upon what the heart feels at ease with, or to consult people of experience and righteousness and entrust the matter to Allah. Whatever he then proceeds with will be good for him, for Istikhara is a supplication, and supplication is good for the believer. Allah Almighty said: "And perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
