Is it permissible for the one seeking guidance through Istikhara to proceed with the matter even if he feels distressed or encounters problems, as long as he has not completely turned away from it, based on the understanding that Istikhara leads to what is good?
Scholars have differed regarding a person's reliance after performing Istikhara. The preponderant view is that one should proceed with the matter for which Istikhara was performed and not abandon it unless Allah diverts them from it. Scholars have mentioned that there is nothing in the Hadith indicating that Allah generates a feeling of ease in the heart of the supplicant, or that they will see a dream, or hear a voice. In fact, the supplicant might not find ease even after repeating Istikhara. This confirms that the matter is not contingent upon a feeling of ease, but rather it is a supplication to Allah to destine what is good for them wherever it may be. Ibn Abd al-Salam and al-Zamlakani adopted this view.
