How do I deal with my father's friend who is trying to convince my father to leave the I'tikaf and accusing me of seeking money, knowing that I am observing I'tikaf for spiritual benefit and only leave to serve and visit my father, and I wish to catch the first takbeer for forty days in a non-Islamic country?

Itikaf is a prescribed act of worship. However, it is sunnah to abandon it if it conflicts with honoring one's parents or fulfilling obligations. Indeed, attending to the needs of one's family may be better than Itikaf, especially if their financial support is obligatory, as earning to provide for them is a duty. There is a difference of opinion regarding the obligation to complete Itikaf once it has been started. The majority of scholars believe that it is not obligatory and that one may leave it at any time. Obedience to a parent is not obligatory if they command one to abandon Itikaf without a valid reason, or if their command stems from mere foolishness. Nevertheless, a son should strive to please his parents and treat them with kindness.
