What are the problems faced by Muslims due to others' perceptions of them?
Muslims may suffer persecution and harm for reasons including the ignorance of disbelievers about Islam, or their obstinacy, or their envy. Nevertheless, Muslims believe that Islam is a religion of might and dignity, and that a strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah. Islam has commanded us to be merciful among ourselves and firm against the disbelievers, and has permitted us to marry women from the People of the Book without marrying our daughters to them. It has also commanded us to expel polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and has forbidden us from eating from their utensils unless they are thoroughly washed, and from imitating them. It has commanded us to fight disbelievers when capable, and to offer them the options of entering Islam, or paying jizya, or fighting. The humiliation of Muslims today is due to their negligence in adhering to their religion, abandoning preparation for jihad, and loving this worldly life.
