Is my effort to convince my fiancée not to hold a large women's wedding party—due to its containing forbidden things—considered an act for which I will be rewarded, or am I overstepping my bounds?

It is not permissible to attend wedding parties that include forbidden acts such as singing with musical instruments other than the duff (tambourine), immodest dancing, mixing of men and women, or photography. If the party is free of forbidden acts, the husband should not prevent his wife from attending, as it brings joy. It is advisable for the party to be held in the bride's home to avoid extravagance, especially since 7,000 dirhams is a large sum. It is regrettable that some borrow money to hold such parties, and the loan may be usurious. The couple should begin with mutual understanding, and the wife should obey her husband in what is not a sin, and help preserve money by organizing the party at home, explaining this to her sisters. If the family insists on holding the party outside the home, efforts must be made to ensure it is free from forbidden acts, based on the verse: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones."
