Is it permissible to disburse Zakat to preachers and students of knowledge, and for purchasing and distributing da'wah (Islamic propagation) books, and furnishing da'wah offices?

Some scholars have held that jihad in the way of Allah includes jihad with one's self and weapons, as well as jihad of knowledge, calling to Allah, refuting misconceptions, and clarifying the beauties of Islam. They cite the Almighty’s saying: "So do not obey the disbelievers, but strive against them with it in a great striving" (25:52), and the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Strive against the polytheists with your wealth, your selves, and your tongues." A resolution was issued by the Islamic Fiqh Academy affirming that calling to Allah and whatever aids it falls under the meaning of "in the way of Allah" in the verse concerning Zakat (definition) expenditures, given the importance of da'wah (calling to Islam) and its role in exalting the word of Allah and confronting intellectual invasion.
