Is a husband permitted to force his wife to stop using makeup that she applies to conceal dark circles, even though she wishes to gradually discontinue its use?
A woman is permitted to apply makeup to adorn herself for her husband or to conceal facial imperfections, provided it does not harm her skin. She is allowed to appear with it only before her mahram relatives. As for non-mahram men, it is not permissible for a woman to display her hidden adornments to them. If the husband forbids his wife from wearing makeup in front of non-mahram men, he has the right to do so, and she must obey him, for in this there is obedience to Allah and obedience to her husband. However, if she does not display it in front of non-mahram men, yet her husband still asks her to stop using it, it is wise for her to accede to his wish so that estrangement does not occur between them, because the purpose of marital adornment is to please the husband and endear herself to him.
