What is the ruling on working for a radio station that broadcasts old popular songs?

Listening to music accompanied by musical instruments is forbidden according to the majority of scholars; some even narrated a consensus on this. It is not permissible to work for a radio station that broadcasts songs if it involves assisting in their propagation, due to the Almighty's saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." If there is a necessity to continue working, it is permissible only to the extent of that necessity. Necessity is defined as that which is highly likely to cause a person to fall into ruin or an unbearable hardship.
