After the bleeding stops for five days, one must perform ghusl and make up the missed prayers. There is no need to repeat fasting, nor is there any issue with the husband engaging in intercourse, as the purity interspersed within menstruation or postpartum bleeding is valid. Any blood that reappears within the forty-day period is considered nifas (postpartum bleeding). What occurs after forty days is not nifas unless it coincides with the usual menstrual period and lasts for a day and a night. Some scholars believe that the maximum duration for nifas is sixty days. After sixty days: blood that appears during a possible menstrual period is considered menses, and any other bleeding is istihada (irregular vaginal bleeding). If the duration of bleeding is one day and one night and does not exceed fifteen days, it is menstruation. And what you see after its cessation, if it is before the passage of thirteen days and can be considered a single menstrual period, then it is menstruation. However, if the duration of bleeding exceeds fifteen days, or you see blood after less than thirteen days and it cannot be considered a single menstrual period, then it is istihada.
