How can one achieve taqwa (piety) and reform the heart, given the inability to concentrate and recall, the abundance of sins, and the maintenance of prayer without awareness of it?
The disarray of a person's affairs and the instability of their conditions are due to a lack of piety and the commission of sins. Among the effects of sins are: deprivation of knowledge and sustenance, alienation in the heart, difficulty in affairs, weakness of the heart, body, and mind, and the removal of blessings from one's life. In contrast, steadfastness upon the fear of Allah has praiseworthy effects, including: an exit from every difficulty, provision from where one does not expect, facilitation of affairs, facilitation of knowledge, love from Allah and acceptance on earth, salvation from the punishment of this world, glad tidings at the time of death, and inheritance of Paradise. This is achieved by: obeying commands and avoiding prohibitions, acquiring the means of devotion in prayer, and persistently supplicating at virtuous times, especially the Prophetic supplication: "My Lord, help me to remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You well."
