It is not obligatory to contract marriage in a Sharia court. Rather, it is valid if both spouses consent to it, and it is conducted in the presence of the woman's guardian or his representative, along with two just witnesses, and a formula indicating the contract. If these conditions are met, the couple may marry at any time. It is preferable to document the marriage to preserve rights and prevent disputes. Obedience to the ruler is obligatory if he commands it for the public interest.
