Should the greeting be initiated by the elder or the younger when entering a group of people?

Greeting or offering hospitality begins with the elder, emulating the action of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. However, if people are seated, it begins with the one on the right, even if he is the youngest. Then, it is given to the one on the right of the person offering (the host), not to the right of the elder.
