There is no impediment to marrying a woman with an age difference or who has children, provided that her guardian or his representative gives her in marriage. Announcing the marriage (ishhar an-) is recommended, not obligatory. It is permissible to forgo it after the pillars of marriage are met: the presence of the guardian or his representative, two just witnesses, a dowry, and the marriage formula. It is permissible to consummate the marriage with the woman after the legal contract, even if the marriage is not announced. However, consummation without a legal contract is fornication (zina).
