Why do Muslims wage jihad?

Jihad in the way of Allah was enjoined for several reasons and benefits, including: to make people worship Allah alone, to repel the aggression of aggressors against Muslims, to remove discord from people by freeing them from the torment of disbelievers and their hindering from the truth, to protect the Islamic state, to instill fear in disbelievers and humiliate them, to expose hypocrites, to purify believers from their sins, to acquire spoils of war, to take martyrs, and to preserve the world from corruption.
