Is the father obliged to spend on his daughter for necessities only, excluding luxuries such as recreation? If so, how can a non-working woman go out for recreation, and how can she travel only with a mahram?

The relationship between relatives is based on benevolence, and a father's responsibility towards his daughter is not limited to necessities but also includes what brings joy. Accepting a father's kindness and spending pleasant times with him is beloved by both parties.

Maintenance is determined by custom, and "recreation" is not an obligatory expense for a father towards his daughter; rather, it is an act of kindness from him. Recreation should be with a mahram (unmarriageable kin) or trusted companions to avoid harassment.

A woman's travel without a mahram is absolutely forbidden, regardless of whether the distance is long or short. A woman is not permitted to travel except with a mahram, due to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: «A woman must not travel except with a mahram» narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
