Is one obligated to ask Allah for healing from illness, even if one loves the illness because they see it as a path to entering Paradise and an expiation for sins?

Illness is a trial, and one is forbidden from wishing for trials. Instead, one is encouraged to ask Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter, just as the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to do. The most complete approach when ill is to ask Allah for healing with patience. Many supplications have been authentically reported for this, such as saying, "O Allah, Lord of mankind, Remover of hardship, heal, for You are the Healer." Supplicating for the removal of harm is the best approach, consistent with divine guidance and human nature. If someone chooses patience with illness and does not supplicate for healing, they are not to be criticized, provided they are confident in their ability to endure patiently. However, the most complete guidance of the Prophet, peace be upon him, is to ask Allah for well-being and to seek treatment when illness strikes.
