Must a wife tell her husband the truth if his question is about something that troubles her, and she believes that the answer will stir up problems, or should she refrain from answering?

The Sharia (definition) has permitted lying in three cases as an exception to its prohibition. One of these is a man lying to his wife and a woman lying to her husband to achieve a benefit related to their marital life, such as fostering affection and love, and averting disputes, provided that it does not result in injustice or infringement upon the rights of either party. Scholars have explained this as the type of lying intended to improve the relationship and demonstrate love and appreciation, even if it involves a compliment that does not perfectly align with reality, as long as it harms no one and does not nullify any right.
