To what extent is the marriage of Al-Hasan ibn Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, to more than ninety women authentic?

Al-Hasan ibn Ali, may Allah be pleased with them both, was known for marrying and divorcing frequently. However, the narrations mentioning that he married seventy, ninety, two hundred and fifty, or three hundred women are not supported by sound evidence and are not authentically established in terms of their chain of transmission. Therefore, one must pause before accepting them and be cautious in relying upon them. It is imperative to be wary when dealing with such narrations in history, especially concerning prominent figures of Islam, because history compiles both the authentic and the denied, and falsehood and laxity in it may be more prevalent. For this reason, scholars emphasize the necessity of critiquing historical narrations and distinguishing the sound from the infirm.
