What is the ruling concerning the divorce of someone who is coerced, and who intends not to divorce, knowing that those present and the officiant are aware of his unwillingness?

The divorce of someone under duress is not valid according to the majority of jurists, and their evidence is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do," provided that the duress is compelling. The officiant's pronouncement does not make it legally binding, and the man can legally prove the duress. The officiant and whoever coerced the husband must repent to Allah.
