Does the commission of major sins by some Companions, despite the greatness of their faith, mean that we are more entitled to commit them due to the weakness of our faith, or is this analogy incorrect? And how do we respond to those who cite the actions of the Companions in committing major sins to justify their own actions?

Satan claims that some Companions committed major sins in order to trivialize acts of disobedience, but this is false. The complete role model for a Muslim is the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, whom Allah commanded us to emulate and to take what he brought. A Muslim is commanded to follow the Companions in their excellence, not in their errors, for they would hasten to repent when they erred. The major sins committed by some Companions were rare, and their prevailing characteristic was uprightness and sincere repentance. Therefore, a Muslim should emulate their repentance, not their errors, and strive in acts of obedience as they did.
