What is the ruling on throwing a damaged Mushaf into the sea?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
It is obligatory to glorify and respect the Mus'haf (copy of the Qur'an), for it is the word of the Lord of the Worlds. One must avoid anything that constitutes disrespect towards it, such as throwing it on the ground or placing it in an unsuitable place. If the Mus'haf is damaged and unusable, it is permissible to bury it in a respectful place or burn it to preserve it. As for placing it in the sea, that is closer to disrespect than to respect, and therefore it is not permissible.
