Is the teacher considered a guardian over the students, and therefore, must he be obeyed?

The teacher does not have authority over the student such that disagreeing with him would be Islamically prohibited. However, showing respect, veneration, and obedience to him in matters that do not involve disobedience is part of the guidance of Islam and a means of benefiting from his knowledge.
