Is it permissible to apply the title "People of the Book" to a Muslim?

The term "People of the Book" (أهل الكتاب) is specific to Jews and Christians. It is not permissible to apply it to Muslims, neither linguistically nor Islamically. The Quran, Sunnah, and the sayings of scholars affirm its exclusive reference to them. It is not permissible to use it to group the monotheistic religions in a single context.
