Shaving the beard is a minor sin, but persistence in it elevates it to a major sin. Disgust towards it is often due to natural inclination rather than religious law; it is not out of dislike for the of the Prophet or the ruling of Islamic law. Otherwise, the matter would exceed the bounds of a major sin.
