What should a son do when his disputing parents ask him to take sides with one of them?

Filial piety is obligatory, and disobeying one's parents is forbidden. Allah Almighty has linked filial piety with His worship in many verses, which indicates the extreme obligation of honoring them. Children must honor their parents and treat them with kindness, offering advice and striving to reconcile them, even if they insist on divorce. The son must make it clear to them that he is committed to honoring both of them and will not side with either. The mother is entitled to three times the filial piety owed to the father, as stated in the noble prophetic tradition, due to the immense suffering she endured during pregnancy and upbringing. If the parents are in constant dispute, the son must strive to reconcile them and honor both, even if it requires concealing his kindness to one from the other to avoid their anger. The son must also explain to his parents that honoring one does not mean abandoning the other. If they insist on quarreling, the son should avoid getting involved in their disputes after advising them.
