What is the ruling on ovarian stimulating injections used to treat infertility in men and women, which are human hormones extracted from the urine of pregnant women, and is it permissible to take this medication given that it is the only treatment available worldwide?

Medical treatment is permissible. The use of medication extracted from urine for fertility purposes is Islamically permissible because the medicine has undergone a transformation (istihalah), losing its characteristic and name of impurity. We have previously clarified that impurity is purified through transformation. Even if one were to consider these hormones impure, as long as it is the only available medication, there is no objection to its use. The Shafi'is have permitted treatment with impure substances other than alcohol.
