Is it permissible to give charity monthly while having a debt to a Riba-based bank that can be repaid in installments over months?

The basic principle is to earn money to pay off debt, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All sins of a martyr are forgiven except debt." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to refrain from praying over one who died while owing a debt and had left nothing to repay it.

However, voluntary charity is permissible even with the presence of debt. Al-Nawawi elaborated on this; some scholars said it is not permissible for someone who needs the money to pay off their debt, while others permitted it.
