What is the punishment for forcefully striking a pregnant woman in her abdomen, leading to the death of the fetus, and how can one repent from this act?
You must hasten to sincere repentance to Allah and perform many righteous deeds. If it is proven that the fetus's death was due to intentional assault, then punishment is obligatory, as a fetus that has completed four months is considered to have the ruling of a human being, by the agreement of jurists. The diyah (blood money) of the fetus (called al-ghurrah) is obligatory if it is delivered dead, and it is estimated to be approximately 213 grams of gold. It is incumbent upon the aqilah (male relatives on the father's side) or the perpetrator, depending on the differing opinions of the jurists. Jurists also differed on the obligation of expiation (kaffarah), and the opinion of its obligation is closer and more cautious, which is fasting for two consecutive months.
