What is the ruling on someone who forgot to assume ihram from the miqat and passed it to Jeddah?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, specified the spatial boundaries (Miqats) for Hajj and Umrah. The jurists are unanimous that these are for the people of those regions and for anyone who passes through them. It is not permissible for one intending Hajj or Umrah to pass the Miqat without entering into a state of ihram. If they pass it out of forgetfulness or ignorance, they must enter into ihram immediately upon realizing it, and there is nothing further due from them if they did not intentionally pass it. As for one who caused them to pass the Miqat, he must repent to Allah and offer a sacrifice (hady) on behalf of each one of them, because he caused them to neglect one of the obligatory rites of the pilgrimage.
