Can I take my mother's zakat al-mal, given that she suffers from Alzheimer's, to pay off her debt to me, by expediting the debt payment?

Firstly: A person afflicted with dementia or Alzheimer's disease is placed under interdiction regarding their wealth. Their guardian is not permitted to dispose of it except in ways that serve the person's best interests.

Secondly: Zakat must be paid from their wealth, because Zakat is tied to wealth. Thus, it is obligatory on the wealth of a minor and an insane person if the wealth reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a hawl (full lunar year) has passed.

Thirdly: It is permissible for the guardian of your mother's wealth to pay you from her Zakat to settle your debt, provided that you are a gharim (person in debt) and cannot find a way to repay your debt, and there is no condition or collusion involved. If it is paid to you, you are obligated to settle the debt.

This is permissible for two reasons: 1. A mother is allowed to give from her Zakat to her child to settle their debt if the child is poor and she is not obligated to support them financially. 2. A Zakat payer is allowed to give their Zakat to their debtor without any condition or collusion.

If you are the one managing your mother's wealth, you are not permitted to take the Zakat yourself, because the agent appointed to distribute Zakat cannot give it to themselves. However, one of your siblings can give you from the Zakat to settle your debt, and then you repay it to your sibling so they can add it back to your mother's wealth.
