Is the departure of the questioner from his home considered an act of disobedience (ʿuqūq)? Does he sin by his mother's anger and displeasure with him? Is his divorce of his wife considered an act of dutifulness (birr) to his mother?

There is no blame upon you for moving to an independent residence, whether you currently live with your parents and siblings or in an adjacent dwelling. However, you must be dutiful and kind to your parents and maintain ties with your brothers and sisters, including those who cause problems, because kindness and kinship ties are obligatory. You are not obligated to divorce your wife if your mother orders you to do so, and we advise you to be kind to your sister who causes problems. You must consider the care of your father when you move, either by taking him with you or by not neglecting his care, for the care of your father is obligatory upon you and your siblings equally, each according to his ability.
