Is it permissible to request a ritual bath from the 'ā'in (person with the evil eye) as mentioned in the Prophetic Hadith for the treatment of the one afflicted by envy (al-maḥsūd)? It is permissible to request the one who has afflicted with the evil eye to perform ghusl (ritual bath), as it is established in the Sunnah that this was done. The hadiths clearly indicate the obligation for the 'ā'in (the one who casts the evil eye) to perform ghusl for the ma'yūn (the one afflicted by the evil eye). The Prophet (peace be upon him) was angered with 'Amir and called his action "murder" when he refused to perform ghusl for Sahl. The 'ā'in is compelled to perform ghusl if he refuses, especially if there is a fear of the ma'yūn perishing, because this falls under the category of saving a life. As for taking something from the 'ā'in's trace and placing it in water for the ma'yūn to bathe with, its benefit is not known through religious texts nor through reason.
